His Nibs.com update -- Pen show videos and Accountants

His Nibs.com update --
Pen show videos and Accountants
August 24h, 2007

Well, the Palace has been unlocked, the
Nibmobile unpacked and re-fueled, and the
vassals have
returned to their assigned duties....it must
mean that His Nibs has returned from the
Supershow! It was great to be back at the
D.C. show after a year's hiatus. I'll be
interested to see if statistics are published
on dealer and public attendance. It certainly
seemed -- especially on Saturday -- to
have been the busiest yet.

We were certainly busy. I decided to focus
more on Monteverde, Delta, Wing Sung and
Pilot offerings at our table this show, after
introducing DUKE and Uranus to the U.S.
several years ago and primarily highlighting
those lines in recent years (there's only so
much table space!). With Delta's Caruso http://www.hisnibs.com/caruso.htm being
the 'show pen', along with the Lucky http://www.hisnibs.com/we.htm
and Vintage http://www.hisnibs.com/vintage.htm lines (I still haven't had a chance
to complete the webpages for those models
since my return -- but promise to soon), and
a sneak peek at Delta's Israel
60th http://www.hisnibs.com/israel_60th.htm limited edition (available
October 15th), the Italian maker was well
represented.

Monteverde has had so many innovative designs
recently, starting with the Mega http://www.hisnibs.com/mega_le_2.htm and
it's latest iteration (the reverse,
inside-painted Nabu http://www.hisnibs.com/mega_painted.htm limited editions) -- the
now-extensive Artista http://www.hisnibs.com/artista.htm line -- and the
recently relaunched Invincia http://www.hisnibs.com/invincia.htm
pens -- that
the whole product spectrum did very well.

I can't tell you how many customer came up to
me over the three day show to sing the
praises of the Pilot
78G http://www.hisnibs.com/pilot_pens.htm pens.
That model was
the hit of the show for us (I've received
word that more of the black with the 'B' stub nib
will be on their way to me soon).

Wing Sungs http://www.hisnibs.com/wing_sung1.htm took flight, as along with the
venerable Hero 329 http://www.hisnibs.com/'329'_series.htm
and 330 http://www.hisnibs.com/'330'_series.htm
models, they
represent the best value in Pendom.

It's always a challenge to try and play
catch-up with all of the emails and orders
that arrive while away at a pen show (one of
the reasons I 'took off' last year), but
we're all caught up now and next update I can
properly introduce the Delta pens. I'm also
happy to announce that we're once again
stocked with the Hero
Accountant http://www.hisnibs.com/'237-1'.htm,
XXF pens!

We have two new videos up on the homepage http://www.hisnibs.com .
The first is a brief tour of the D.C.
Supershow itself. If you've never been to a
pen show, this will hopefully give you a feel
for the energy, excitement and sometimes
chaos that you're missing. The second video
is an interview -- at a noisy cocktail party
(the sacrifices His Nibs must endure for the
denizens of Pendom!) with Yair 'Jerry'
Greenberg. Yair is owner and creative
whirlwind of both YAFA and Monteverde, and
the exclusive distributor of Delta here in
the U.S. He's also one of the nicest people
you'd ever hope to meet. Hopefully the audio
is clear enough to learn a bit about what's
upcoming for the three companies.

Both videos can be accessed from the homepage http://www.hisnibs.com.
A few people have reported problems with
their browsers properly connecting to the
embedded videos. I've therefore uploaded them
to a number of hosting sites that should be
accessible by everyone, and you'll find links
on the website for them.

On the blog....Sonic boom!

"Explanation: Is this what a sonic boom looks
like? When an airplane travels at a speed
faster than sound, density waves of sound
emitted by the plane cannot precede the
plane, and so accumulate in a cone behind the
plane. When this shock wave passes, a
listener hears all at once the sound emitted
over a longer period: a sonic boom. As a
plane accelerates to just break the sound
barrier, however, an unusual cloud might
form. The origin of this cloud is still
debated. A leading theory is that a drop in
air pressure at the plane described by the
Prandtl-Glauert Singularity occurs so that
moist air condenses there to form water
droplets. Above, an F/A-18 Hornet was
photographed just as it broke the sound
barrier. Large meteors and the space shuttle
frequently produce audible sonic booms before
they are slowed below sound speed by the
Earth's atmosphere."
