Call it an 'end of summer sale', a clearance sale or
a '40%-off' sale. I call it a 'I need to clear out
some odds and ends to make room for some new models
coming....sale'.

In most cases, the models listed are down to just a
few pens in stock. In several cases there's only one
left! So, if you see something that you want at
40%-off of the retail price -- or of my usual price
in the case of some of the imported Chinese pens --
email me immediately to avoid possible disappointment.

The sale will last through Monday, September 11th,
or -- as *they* say -- while supplies last!

DUKE 'Eight Horse Jump Over' limited edition desk set

First up is the magnificent, limited edition desk
pen set with the hard-to-forget translated Chinese
name...Eight Horse Jump Over!

Here's a desk set that makes a statement! The set's
large, solid wooden base (I believe rosewood),
measures 10" x 5" and weighs in at a hefty 2-1/2
lbs., just by itself. The two included pens (one
fountain, one rollerball), each measure a whopping
7-1/2".

The perimeter of the base is decorated with
hand-carved flowers, vines and leaves, and turning
the base over reveals a carved 'Duke', DUKE 'crown'
logo, the name of the pen set in Chinese characters,
and the limited edition number of that particular set.

The most spectacular feature of the base of course
is back on top...the golden-metal, high-relief
depiction of the eight jumping horses (the number
eight is considered extremely lucky in Chinese
culture). The detail of the casting is truly
amazing, with individual stands of the horses manes,
as well as underlying musculature, clearly visible
to the naked eye.

The two gold-plated tulips, or pen receptacles, set
in the base can be rotated or angled to any
position. Two additional tulips are packaged in the
set, and serve to protect the pens while in transit.
The pens themselves are finished in a stunning
marble-veined Italian resin, in black and
gray/white. The center-band is decorated with golden
tulips as well as the name 'Duke'. The taper-end has
a Moiré-like pattern in gold and black, and the very
tip displays a small, black diamond-cut 'jewel'.
The section right behind the nib or rollerball
displays four stylized, rearing horses.

The nib on the fountain pen is a 14K gold nib, in
medium, with a concentric half-oval design engraved
alongside 'Duke', '14K' and '580' (which should read
'585' for 14K gold!). Unscrewing the all-metal
fittings between the section and taper reveals a
DUKE piston converter for bottled ink.

Monteverde Charisma fountain pens

I only have a few of these left as of this writing,
so I'd suggest listing the colors in order of
preference when you email me. If your first or
second choice has already sold out, at least you'll
still be able to get one of these terrific pens.
Monteverde has retired the model -- after a long run
of five or six years -- so when they're gone,
they're gone!

The 8 faceted Charisma Collection offers a
combination of real Ebonite with Gold Plated
accents, or aged Celluloid with Mirror Chrome
accents, both crafted with the rarest of materials
usually reserved for much higher priced writing
instruments.

Charisma fountain pens feature the unique
"invert-and-insert" capless design, which allows the
nib to be stored in the barrel while maintaining the
natural beauty of the pen's shape. The two-toned
German iridium-tipped steel nibs are available in
medium and come gift boxed with black ink cartridges

DUKE Beijing Opera

DUKE presents the spectacular Beijing Opera Rhythm
series of fountain pens. Designed to commemorate the
Beijing Opera (also known as the Peking Opera),
whose origin dates back over 200 years to 1790 (you
can read a short history here). Each pen, which
measures 5-1/4" capped -- from the sapphire on the
barrel bottom to the sapphire on the cap top -- and
6-1/4" with the cap posted, displays two of the
traditional painted faces of characters from famous
operas. These were not masks, but actual make-up
applied directly to the faces of the performers. Six
faces in all are depicted across three pens, one in
front below the cap band, and a second on the
opposite side of the barrel

These are large and hefty pens, being all-brass
construction underneath. The gorgeous cloisonné
finish is done in a cobalt blue base (a close match
for the sapphire jewels), which provides a warm
background for the vibrancy of the face paintings
and the 18K rose gold highlights, which were
selected to convey the patina of antique copper. The
raised wire-work on the barrel is traditionally
shaped to represent clouds in the sky, while the
old-style Chinese characters on the cap speak of the
200 year history of the Beijing Opera and of the
good fortune inherent in writing with an instrument
representing such history and culture (from those
characters that we could decipher).

Parafernalia ballpoints

An innovative pen, entirely hand-made with 31
miniaturized metallic components and push mechanism.
The great innovative impact, the ultimate design and
structure have set apart the Revolution and who owns
it. Exhibited at the Modern Art Museum in New York.

Measuring 5-1/4" long, these innovative ballpoints
are actually very comfortable to write with, as the
triangular tubing design rests comfortably upon the
fingers. Although of metal construction, they're
also quite light, so writing for extended periods of
time presents no problem. Each pen comes with a
wooden, desktop display.

DUKE Platinum Tower

The Platinum Tower is a lovely all-metal pen, which
measures approximately 5-3/4" capped, 6-1/4" posted.
It's a slim pen, so its platinum-plated matte finish
doesn't make for a tiring writing experience. I
find it comfortable to use whether the cap is posted
or not (it's a slip cap, that snaps securely closed).

The nib is platinum-plated, 14K gold, producing a
line between a western fine and medium, or what I
term light-medium. This is the nib design found on
many of the gold Duke nibs, consisting of a
concentric half-oval design engraved alongside
'Duke', '14K' and '580' (which should read '585' for
14K gold!).

Monteverde Oceana ballpoint

Monteverde presents a breakthrough in gift-worthy
writing instruments. A true safety pen that
transcends the current benchmark for luxury travel
pens. Mechanically, the Oceana works just like
lipstick. The cap is as long as the barrel, removes
with a twist, and posts with threaded security. Like
lipstick the point telescopes out. For travel, the
Oceana is less than 4 inches long. Posted and fully

DUKE Gold Medal

The gorgeous DUKE Gold Medal pen is offered in three
finishes. Measuring 5-1/4" capped and 6-1/4" posted,
it's on the slim side, and fits comfortably in any
hand. The first two make use of a lovely
marble-veined Italian resin, used in a number of
DUKE pens, while the third (and now fourth) has a
deep, rich 'wood-grain' appearing resin that's quite
unlike any I've ever seen.

The pens shipped with either a two-toned or
monotone 14K gold nib, in medium, with a concentric
half-oval design engraved alongside 'Duke', '14K'
and '580' (which should read '585' for 14K gold!).
This differs from the nib show in the catalog photo
at the top of the page, and whether a specific pen
has the two-toned or monotone nib in place just
depends upon what we have in stock at the moment
(although we will attempt to honor preference requests).

DUKE Earl

Ok, let's see how many of you over the age of 50 can
get through this page without hearing the song "Duke
of Earl" play in your head! A full-sized pen --
measuring 5-1/2" capped and 5-7/8" posted -- the use
of iridescent resin is a bit of a departure for a
DUKE model. In this case it's of a rich, deep-sea
green, seemingly embedded in a velvet black
background.

Hero '900' series

The Hero Oversize '900' series. These pens are part
of Hero's "Doctor" line of fine pens. These are
large and hefty pens, measuring 5-3/4" capped and
6-3/4" posted, and have a two-toned, 14K gold
medium nib.
The nib is engraved with the Hero "H", as well as
"14K" and "900". The barrel and cap are both
finished with 14K gold-plate highlights. The cap
band says "Doctor 900" on the clip side, and "Made
in Hero China"! on the back. The clip says "Doctor"
in a flowing script, and the cap is topped by a
large, 1/2" CZ 'jewel'. The pen includes a large
capacity pump filler for ink bottle filling. The cap
clicks on with a secure and satisfying 'snap', and
even given its size, the pen is quite light and
well-balanced. A Hero 14K medallion accompanies the
pen, and it comes boxed. These are not subtle pens,
but rather ones which definitely make a classy
statement. Not recommended for the demure or shy!

DUKE Yellow Jade desk pen

DUKE Columbus

The DUKE Columbus offers a stunning design in a
full-sized pen. Measuring 5-3/8" capped, and 5-1/2"
posted, the iridescent blue, highly textured barrel
is actually made from copper! DUKE has found a
process which somehow fuses this gorgeous cobalt
blue to the alternating high-gloss smooth sections
and to the elongated, 'pebble'-textured 'x'
patterns. It's like no other finish I've seen, and
the photos don't really do it justice.
