His Nibs.com Update --
DUKE Bright Pearl
July 1st, 2006
The DUKE Bright Pearl returns this week after a long
hiatus. I was able to obtain a few more of these
gorgeous limited production, inlaid shell pens. This will
most likely be the end of them unfortunately.
I have a few more Monteverde Megas that came in
this week. Demand continues to outpace supply of
these unique writers, and backorders are slowly being
filled by the company. In addition, I now have a
supply of the replacement tips and threaded ink
converters. Also, a link to a new Mega website on my
Mega page.
On the blog...the Hubble Telescope's main camera
has been repaired.

DUKE Bright Pearl

"Duke Pens - Bravo. As the proud owner of the
Duke Bright Pearl in the Dark Green Sea, I can attest
to it's unique beauty and . . . surprise! It worked
perfectly right out of the box! Is that amazing or
what? The medium nib seems a bit finer than what I
think of as medium, but the flow is terrific and it lays
down a lovely line. I think you'll be hearing more
about these pens. Their price is reasonable, their
look is unique and their quality deserving of
praise." S.H., Newtown, CT
"I have been accumulating pens for 29 years and I
must say that Duke's "Bright Pearl in Dark Green Sea"
has to be one of the all time great "pounds for the
buck" I have ever made. Not only is the pen
absolutely stunning, but the packaging is the very
best I have ever seen. I want to thank you for
bringing these Oriental beauties to the United States
where we can all enjoy them." K.A.,
Edgewood, NY
Here's the DUKE pen which often seems to attract
attention first at pen shows. With its embedded
abalone shell in a black lacquer base, this hefty
lacquer-over-brass pen just naturally grabs the eye.
Being made from natural shell, the pattern of each
pen is unique. Although substantial in weight, I would
place this pen in the 'full-sized' category, as these
things are reckoned these days, with a capped
length of 5-1/2" and a posted one of 6". Despite the
heftiness of the materials used, due to its design and
balance, I've found this pen to be a pleasure to write
with for extended periods of time, whether posted or
not.

Monteverde Mega

Quoting from the cover story of PENNA magazine:
"American company Monteverde turns the writing
world on its head with a rollerball with a converter.
For the first time in the history of this magazine
we've dedicated our cover story to a rollerball. And
we're happy to do it because the product in question
represents a true revolution the writing world.
Dubbed Mega Ink.Ball (a registered trademark). the
latest from MonteVerde is the only rollerball in the
world that uses a converter filling system, which
draws ink through an intake ring around the nose of
the pen. In all respects, this is a tradition converter
that draws ink in the same way as a fountain pen.
The result is a uniquely smooth writing experience.
The pen delivers a pleasantly soft and flowing line
with an uninterrupted flow of ink, but with the feel of
a fountain pen.
The Mega Ink. ball is the
brainchild of
Jerry Greenberg, President and founder of
Monteverde, who designed the pen without
overlooking a single detail. With its eye-catching
ergonomic design, the pen is made of the highest
quality acrylic resins, worked entirely by hand to
create its gently flowing lines. This is a pen that's
comfortable to hold and beautiful to the eyes.
Monteverde makes the pen with two barrel sizes,
with the larger version for those who prefer a more
substantial feel. The clip has been designed with
functionality in mind, so it can be quickly,
conveniently, and safely inserted and removed from
the pocket.
Mega Ink.Ball will undoubtedly win fans among fine
pen aficionados and collectors as well as among
engineers and architects who typically love new
technologies. And of course it will also appeal to
professionals with a taste for the exclusive.
Monteverde will soon be expanding the line to include
newly designed rollerball pens with an appeal to the
broader market. All will, of course, feature the
revolutionary new Ink.Ball technology.
