I'll be attending the National Stationery Show in New
York beginning tomorrow, Sunday May 21st, so I'll be
offline until late Tuesday. You can read about some

For those on the waiting list for the Monteverde
Mega, Monteverde informs me that they'll be
getting
in about 100 of the black and 30 of the burgundy this
coming week, with more to follow the week following.
They weren't able to tell me where my order was on
their waiting list, so I'm not sure yet when I'll
be able to ship out. Sorry to all of you who are
patiently waiting!!!!

After a long hiatus, the Dinuoyang #818 from China is
back-in-stock.

Private Reserve has come out with three new ink
colors, which will ship to dealers starting the end of
next week.

I also received a huge re-stocking order of DUKE and
Uranus pens yesterday. As a lot of them had sold
out, there are too many models to mention them all
individually, but I've highlighted a few of them below.

Dinuoyang #818 returns

A full-sized pen (5-1/2" capped, 6-1/8" posted), the
#818 has an iridescent shimmer to it's lacquer finish
that is hard to capture in a photograph, but really
shows up in the light. Despite its underlying brass
construction, it's quite light and comfortably slender,
seeming to fit well in large and small hands alike.

Private Reserve is
introducing three new colors,
which will begin shipping to dealers starting the end

Purple Mojo -- an intense purple, reminiscent
of fine amethyst.

Chocolat -- a deep, rich chocolate-bar
brown (yes, the spelling is correct...remember the
movie?).

Ultra Black -- and instant-drying black ink
which will
be great for left-handed writers.

DUKE Columbus

The DUKE Columbus offers a stunning design in a full-
sized pen. Measuring 5-3/8" capped, and 5-1/2"
posted, the iridescent blue, highly textured barrel is
actually made from copper! DUKE has found a
process which somehow fuses this gorgeous cobalt
blue to the alternating high-gloss smooth sections
and to the elongated, 'pebble'-textured 'x' patterns.
It's like no other finish I've seen, and the photos
don't really do it justice.

Uranus Gray Pinstripe

A slim, understated pen design, gives the Uranus GDF
Gray Pinstripe a very classy appearance. Measuring 5-
1/4" capped and a full 6" posted, it adapts itself to
any wardrobe, from business suit to casual wear. The
three simple, silver bands at barrel-base, cap top and
midsection nicely accentuate the sedate feel to the
exterior of this pen. The clip is subtly adorned with
the Uranus 'star' symbol, which is reprised on the cap
top (along with 'Uranus').

DUKE Rhyme Star -- Chinese calligraphy nib

The Rhyme Star sports a Chinese calligraphy nib,
or 'art' nib. As can be seen from the upward sweep
of it profile, this type of nib bears no relationship to a
western-style calligraphy nib. This nib should be
thought of more as a 'metal brush', designed to
approximate the brushstrokes used in traditional
Chinese calligraphy. Although words can indeed be
written with this style of nib, it should in no way be
considered a regular writing pen. Even to describe
the point as a 'medium' doesn't really mean too much
in a conventional fountain pen sense. I certainly
can't say that I've mastered writing or drawing with
the pen, but it's been fun trying!

Uranus #2018 Multifunction pen

The usual multifunction pen from Asia has a fountain
pen on one end, and a ballpoint on the other. Here's
a truly unique variation on that theme. This pen has
a liquid-ink rollerball on one end, and a Chinese
calligraphy 'brush' on the other!

DUKE Golden Rings

The Golden Rings classifies as an over-sized pen,
measuring 5-1/2" capped and 6-1/4" posted, with a
nice heft derived from its lacquer over brass
construction. As much as I like the brilliant colors and
patterns of many of today's resin pens, sometimes
you just can't beat the classic black and gold
fountain pen.

Uranus Silver Ribbon

Removing the slip cap displays the 22K gold-plated Triumph-style wrap-around nib (I'd rate the nib as a European fine). A section of the nib is cut out in the shape of the Uranus star logo, which adds a terrific visual element to this very attractive nib. The nib is also engraved with 'Uranus' and '22K GP'.

DUKE Blue Spyder

DUKE continues to come up with unique designs, and
this is a pen that certainly qualifies. Measuring 5-1/2"
capped and a full 6-1/4" posted, one is immediately
drawn to the sheen of the cobalt blue barrel and the
rakish slant of the cap top, which sports the DUKE
crown logo surrounded by rearing lions. The clip is
also engraved with the crown logo, and is
marked 'Germany' at its top.

It's when one removes the slip cap however that the
really unique design element captures attention. The
semi-hooded gold-plated nib (which wraps almost all
the way around the feed and is engraved with 4-
pointed stars) is integrated with the startling sweep
of the black teardrop element running the length of
the section, enclosed by golden cross-hatching.

Well, it seems like TT has gotten a lot of
press this week, from its health benefits (physically

Although not on the blog, you might have seen a 99-
year-old player on Jay Leno's 'Tonight Show' last
week. Something's in the air!
