His Nibs.com update -- New Riviera fountain pens

His Nibs.com Update --
New Riviera fountain pens
January 28, 2006

I've long admired the look of the Monteverde Riviera
fineliner pens, which I've carried in the past. I've also
asked them for a fountain
pen version. Well, sometimes we get what we ask
for! Check out the just-arrived beauties, in four eye-
catching colors!

It's once again time to give your Valentine a gift that
will be remembered -- and used -- each day of the
year. A perfect choice is the Monteverde DIVA
retractable ballpoint or fountain pen. Ordinarily, only
the Ruby Red comes in the heart-shaped gift box,
but I've been able to obtain some extra ones, so feel
free to order another color scheme and ask for the
heart-shaped box (limited quantities though).

While we're on the subject of Monteverde, we've also
restocked all of the Cambria versions, as well as the
Cortina fountain pen.

For all of those on the Speeno (http://www.hisnibs.com/speeno.htm)
waiting list, there's good news, bad news and
ugly news (for those of you who remember the
western Smiling ). The
good news is that I've received an update from my
supplier in China, and it appears that I'll be receiving
an order of them within about a week or so. The bad
news is that the quantity available (about 150) will
be close to the number already spoken for.

The ugly news is that they've increased my cost by
84%! I've consequently been forced to raise my price
25%, from $8.00 to $10.00, to cover some of that
increase.

deaf!

Monteverde Riviera fountain pens

These great-looking multi-hued pens come in four knock-out
versions....Escape Blue, Festive Pink, Party Yellow
and Gala Orange.

These are good-sized pens, measuring 5" capped and
a full 6-1/4" when the screw-off cap is posted. The
chrome-plated highlights of the clip, center cap band
(engraved with 'Monteverde') and the Monteverde
mountain logo rising from the cap top, all seem to fit
in well with the red, blue and gray trim rings inset
within each barrel and cap. It's a visually arresting
look.

Now all you need is a yacht in matching colors!

For your Valentine -- the DIVA

Inspired by Europe's stunning fashion statements,
Monteverde's latest ballpen offering gives pen
enthusiasts an instrument that's easy to carry as
lipstick! Handcrafted from expensive acrylic resins,
DIVA is the fashion-forward way to carry on of the
World's most unique writing instruments.

A truly creative design, the "Lipstick pen", available
as both a fountain pen and ballpoint, is the World's
most unique luxury writing instrument. The cap is
mounted on a threaded ring and posts for a luxurious
look and feel. Diva's barrel turns with a
technologically advanced mechanism. This advances
the point with an extraordinary 2 stage, telescoping
turn, just like a lipstick!

All in one, the Diva pen collection is as desirable as
a kiss.

On the blog...Why screaming doesn't make you deaf

"As you scream for your favorite sports team, special
brain cells kick in to protect your auditory system
from the sound of your own voice, a new study
suggests.

These cells dampen your auditory neurons' ability to
detect incoming sounds. The moment you shut up,
the inhibition signal stops and your hearing returns to
normal, so you can then be deafened by the screams
of the guy next to you.

Scientists call this signal a corollary discharge. In
crickets, on which the study was done, it's sent from
the motor neurons responsible for generating loud
mating calls to sensory neurons involved in hearing.
The signal is sent via middlemen called interneurons."
