His Nibs.com Update --
New Haolilai model
December 28, 2005

The first Haolilai model that we received was such a
hit -- and temporarily out-of-stock -- that we've
decided to offer another in this terrific Chinese line --
the #ZHF300.

On the blog is a terrific article from USA Today
online, entitled "Whatever happened to thank-you
notes?"

We also have a few holiday cartoons from my
brother, Bruce Pritchard, who is a cartoonist outside
of Seattle. Bruce's site
(http://hometown.aol.com/pritcharddesign/ [1]) has remained the same,
but his email address has changed to
brucepritcharddesign@comcast.net [2].

Haolilai #ZHF300

I'm as enamored as any collector of the wonderful
materials and colors used in both vintage and modern
fountain pens, but sometimes you just can't improve
upon the classic black and gold. This classy new
model from Haolilai is the perfect case-in-point.

This is a full-sized pen, measuring 5-1/2" capped and
6-1/4" with its cap posted. The metal cap is finished
in a sophisticated pin stripe in matte gold, with shiny
gold highlights in the cap band, cap top and clip. The
cap top also employs a single black ring, which
serves to break up the all-gold colored cap and
references the black lacquer used on the barrel. Both
the clip and cap top sport the Haolilai double triangle
logo, on a gold pin striped background. The cap is a
slip type, which re-caps with a secure click.

On the blog...Whatever happened to the thank-you note?

"Perhaps Brad Morris' friends just weren't that
thankful.

"It was cheap and pitiful," says Morris, 34. "I would
just as soon have received no thank-you as to
receive that."

Sure, their marriage ceremony in Las Vegas went off
without a snag. Morris journeyed there from Frisco,
Texas, and gave the couple, his pals from work, a
generous gift: a crisp $100 bill.

About a month later, he got an e-mail ? a mass
message from the bride's Yahoo account
addressed "Dear friends," or some such. It thanked
the group for attending the wedding and for "all the
nice gifts," Morris recalls.

That was it ? no monogrammed Crane stationery, no
ballpoint pen signature, not even a stamp. The e-mail
was his thank-you note.

That was it ? no monogrammed Crane stationery, no
ballpoint pen signature, not even a stamp. The e-mail
was his thank-you note.

In fact, that's what many generous Americans will
receive during this season of giving: absolutely
nothing in return. This time of year, when virtually
everyone owes someone a thank-you, many people
assume that if they open a present in the presence
of the giver, no formal thank-you is required."
