This week brings another new Chinese brand and
model, the Haolilai #ZHF101. Of the recent additions,
this has become my personal favorite design-wise.
It's like a throwback to the 'Golden Age' of fountain
pens in the 1930's...or at least strikes me that way,
with a very interesting finish and nib.
Although this week's featured Chinese pen
does come with a gift box, a number of the
other models (and many Hero pens for that matter),
are sold in bulk form, with 12-15 pens packed into a
larger box. To rectify that for those who wish to give
these pens as gifts, I've just obtained some really
neat triangular-shaped pen boxes that will
accommodate any pen up to 5-1/2" in length.
For the many of you that are awaiting the arrival of
your pre-ordered Speeno
(http://www.hisnibs.com/speeno.htm) pens, I've
been notified that I should receive them in about 7-10 days.
I'll email everyone on the waiting list as soon as they arrive!
Re-stocking of DUKE and Uranus pens still await arrival
at the importer's location, but are apparently on-the-way.
Along with the Speeno pens, my buyer in Shanghai is
also sending along some Chinese penknives -- sight
unseen by me -- which he assures me will make
terrific stocking stuffers, not to mention that we'll be
able to sharpen those goose quills we've all, no
doubt, been saving. Stay tuned!
On the blog, the question is posed: are we in the
middle of an Einsteinian Space-Time Vortex? More
data needs to be analyzed to determine the answer,
but I'm betting that it's the explanation for all those
missing socks in the dryer.
Also, The organizers of Domino Day 2005 managed to
set a new world record Friday after successfully
toppling more than 4.1 million dominoes!

Haolilai #ZHF101

Here we have a pen from a Chinese manufacturer
that's coming up with some really terrific designs,
and the ZHF101 fits the bill in a number of ways. This
would be considered as a large or full-sized pen,
measuring a bit over 5-1/2" capped and a full 6-1/4"
posted. When I first saw this pen I was immediately
reminded of a Dunhill-Namiki maki-e pen from the
1930's that I'd seen in the November, 2005 issue of
Pen World magazine.

Red Triangular gift pen box

Made of a series of triangular supports, this
innovative hard-plastic pen box slides open in the
center. The insert is large enough, at 5-1/2" long, to
handle even full-sized pens such as the Baoer
#3013 (http://www.hisnibs.com/baoer.htm) and other full-sized pens
(smaller ones fit too!).

On the blog...Space-Time Vortex

"Is Earth in a vortex of space-time?
We'll soon know the answer: A NASA/Stanford
physics experiment called Gravity Probe B (GP-B)
recently finished a year of gathering science data in
Earth orbit. The results, which will take another year
to analyze, should reveal the shape of space-time
around Earth--and, possibly, the vortex."

On the blog....New Domino record set

The organizers of Domino Day 2005 managed to set a
new world record Friday after successfully toppling
more than 4.1 million dominoes. Their record-breaking
attempt nearly ended earlier this week, however,
when a sparrow flew through an open window in the
auditorium and knocked down 23,000 dominoes. A
system of 750 safety blocks prevented the bird from
bringing down most of the domino chain.
