Stan's Pens - Platinum and Sailor

1. Platinum Celluloid: More Images. This is one of the nicest celluloid pens I’ve seen. Like new and 50 years old. All of the gold trim is there. No tarnish or rust. Colors don’t appear to have faded. Impressed on barrel is PLATINUM/ Pat. No. (S*N logo) 37490/ 10 YEAR PEN. Nib is super flexi and super smooth. Reads PLATINUM/ logo/ PLADIUM/ JIS logo. Feed is urushi coated. $120 for a truly marvelous pen to collect or to use. No exaggerations here.

2. Platinum MUSIC: 18K Yellow Gold MUSIC nib. See picture here. Y3000 (can you believe they sold for that back then – they did because most Japanese didn’t care for them.). 1970s pen. $120.

3. Platinum Short Black: Used. 8 out of a 10. 18K Yellow Gold FINE nib. Very very light surface wear and a few ticks to the side of the clip. $30.

4. Sailor Stainless Big: Brushed stainless with black plastic end caps and black inset into the clip. Heavy pen! Y5000 sticker. Really smooth Sailor famous inlaid FINE 14K Yelow Gold nib. $80. As I tell everyone, the great thing about stainless pens is that you can carry and use them anywhere and they always look good.

5. Sailor ‘Tree’ Pattern: Some time ago I had one of these with a stippled pattern that emulated a kanshitsu finish. This one has vertical line that seem to simulate tree bark. Fantastic stamped gold clip. See here for picture of the top of the cap. Y5000 sticker. Nib is a 21K Yellow gold FINE. $120. Not an easy find.

6. Sailor 21 BROAD Black: It seems that Sailor pens with BROAD nibs are the hardest to find. Y3000 sticker. Here’s one in 21K Yellow Gold. There’s a nice ball of iridium on the tip. The detail on the top of the pen is the same as the one above (#5). $100.

7. Sailor 21 Floral Base: I’ve seen this as a logo before in Japan. These little flowers are used by somebody. Silver lustreloy-type finish with gold flowers. Y2000 sticker. 21K Yellow Gold smooth Very Fine (nib is marked <1>) set in a pink section. $40.

8. Sailor 21 Floral Base: Totally ditto, except for white section. $40.

9. Sailor 21 w/Floral sprigs: Same barrel and cap as above but, with different design and 18K Yellow gold FINE nib. More spring too. Sticker is Y3000. $40.

10. Sailor Brushed Stainless: Vertical brushed finish. Y5000 sticker. 18K white Gold FINE nib. Smmooth smooth smooth. $60.

11. Sailor Stainless Cap: Y3000 sticker. 18K White gold MEDIUM nib. Another super smoothie. IMHO, the Sailor are the best nibs and many of their designs are superior to Pilot and Platinum. Just my 2¢. $40.
