Sheaffer 1000 - Mini Review

I picked this pen up last year (2004) at the Atlanta pen show from Tim Pierson. Super nice guy. Don't think he has an online presense.

On the pen barrel it has:

W.A. SHEAFFER PEN CO.
FORT MADISON, IOWA, U.S.A.
MADE IN U.S.A.
1000

I think this was when I found out that the 1000 stood for a $10 price tag on this pen.

Around the cap it has "1/10 14K GOLD FILLED -- MADE IN USA".

The cap has wavey lines between straight lines. One thing interesting about this cap is that it has the little tuckaway clip. Another thing that was different when I saw it was the clip had a little bump on it and no white dot. Tim gave me a discount because of this, saying that it had the top that went to a rollerball or something. I later talked to a Sheaffer guy at the show and he told me that it could very well have been the original cap from Sheaffer and that it came that way from the factory.

I remember the first time I saw one of these nibs, I thought it was messed up with it's turned up snout. I believe this is called a conical nib. It says Sheaffer's LIFETIME 14K on the nib. There is also a --79-- under Sheaffer's, not sure what this indicates. Anyone know? It's a fine point that writes on the dry side, but is always consistant. Similar to my Murex pens.

There are nice grooves around the section to allow for a good grip. I like this as opposed to a slick grip, espicially on a pen with a tapered section.

The pen is a lever filler and seems to hold an average amount of ink. The black plastic of the pen itself is in great shape and appears well made.

Overall a nice pen and one of my favorites, but perhaps a little on the fine side for my tastes.
