Montblanc Karajan Ballpoint - Mini Review

This pen is a Montblanc donation pen to Herbert von Karajan. A portion of the sales is donated to cultural foundations that organise international classical music initiatives. Herbert von Karajan was evidently a great pianist and conductor. Smiling

One of the things that drew me to this pen was the non-rounded top like the standard Montblanc pens have. This top seems similar to vintage versions of some of the Montblanc pens I've seen. Another interesting thing you may or may not notice after picking up the pen is there is no "Montblanc" inscription anywhere. The only thing letting you know that its a Montblanc is the white star on the top. You would think that a company that is as brand conscense as Montblanc that they would have their name on this pen somewhere.

The pen comes in a rather large presentation box containing a silk scarf with a reproduction of Herbert von Karajan's signature. It also contains a little booklet with information about him and the pen.

Another interesting thing about the pen is the ivory keyboard that goes around the cap band. In addition the clip has an ivory piece in the middle of it. The keyboard pays tribute to his early career in Vienna as an ingenious pianist. The ivory in the clip pays tribute to his days as a conductor and is shaped like a baton.
